The much-anticipated Canon EOS-1D X Mark III has arrived

Canon today launches the EOS-1D X Mark III, offering professional photographers improved AF tracking performance, image quality and communication capabilities

Canon’s EOS-1D X II was much loved by photographers and videographers, and with the arrival of the Mark III, there’s more to love than ever before.

When it comes to megapixels, the Mark III actually has slightly fewer than its predecessor – 20.1MP vs 20.2MP – but that’s not a bad thing. The EOS-1D X III is the first of Canon’s cameras to feature a next generation sensor, offering faster readout and lower noise. The result is Canon’s widest ISO range to date – an impressive extended range of 50 to 819,200.

The 1D X III’s video specs don’t disappoint. It’s the first non-cinema Canon camera to support 12-bit RAW internal recording. Other key features include 5.5K shooting, Canon Log Gamma and 5-axis stabilisation – a feature seen in high-end Canon cinema cameras like the EOS C500 Mark II.

Alongside a new sensor, the 1D X Mark III features a new AF system. The result of which is an industry-leading 16fps shooting, stepping up to 20fps is Live View mode. Additionally, the camera provides 28 times the centre resolution of the Mark II, as well as three times the number of AF points.
