The hunt is on to discover the most promising new talent in filmmaking for the 2024 Stories in Motion competition. CVP, one of Europe’s leading resellers and providers of professional video and broadcast solutions, is partnering with Canon UK & Ireland for the 2024 Canon Stories in Motion Young Filmmakers Awards, which strives to foster and reward creativity among individuals aged 18 to 25.
The competition is open for entries until 31 March 2024, offering hopefuls the chance to win prizes ranging from a Canon EOS C70 cinema camera kit to high-value vouchers for spending at CVP – and there is even the extraordinary experience up for grabs of shadowing a cinematographer who has earned acclaim through their award-winning work.
There are three categories: music video, documentary and scripted short film. And anyone who has a passion for storytelling and cinematography is welcome.
Participants can submit a maximum of three films, one in each category, and will have entries judged by a panel of experienced filmmakers. These include Canon Ambassadors Elisa Iannacone and Tania Freimuth, acclaimed filmmaker Ollie Kenchington and CVP’s technical marketing manager, Jake Ratcliffe.
The judges will pick five entries to be shortlisted per category. Then there will be one winner for each category and one final overall grand prize winner, all based on originality, creativity, cinematography and post-production.
Every shortlisted entry will win a £200 voucher to spend at CVP, and all winners will get an additional £500 CVP voucher. The overall grand prize winner will take home a Canon EOS C70 and RF 24-70mm f/2.8L lens, as well as the opportunity to shadow one of the judges of their choice for a day.
All shortlisted participants will also get the opportunity to have their films showcased during a special award ceremony in London on 25 April 2024, hosted by British TV presenter Alex Zane.
Dawn Bochenski, marketing director at CVP, tells us: “Empowering the next generation of filmmakers and providing them with the tools to create their best work is a passion the Canon and CVP teams share. We have no doubt this year’s entries will be as impressive as last year’s.”
Neale Conroy, marketing director of Canon UK & Ireland, says: “Stories in Motion is a great platform not only to celebrate young creatives, but give them a chance to learn from and have their work seen by talented industry pros.
The quality of work our judges have seen in this year’s participants exceeded all our expectations. We cannot wait to see 2024’s entries.”
