Sony Unveils FE 24-50MM F2.8 G Lens

In a recent announcement, Sony has unveiled its latest addition to the Alpha E-mount lens lineup, the FE 24-50MM F2.8 G.
Released on the 21 February, this compact 35mm full-frame compatible lens stands out for its F2.8 maximum aperture throughout the entire zoom range, combining portability with high-performance optics.
Key features of the FE 24-50MM F2.8 G include a small and lightweight design with a filter diameter of φ67 mm, maximum diameter of 74.8 mm, length of 92.3 mm, and a weight of approximately 440 g.
The lens incorporates four aspherical lenses and two Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) glass pieces to reduce aberrations like chromatic aberration, ensuring sharp and detailed images from the center to the corners.
With an 11-blade circular aperture, the lens achieves beautiful, soft, and smooth bokeh, characteristic of the G Lens series.
It covers a versatile focal length range of 24mm to 50mm, suitable for various photography scenarios, from everyday snapshots to portraits and video shooting.
The FE 24-50MM F2.8 G demonstrates impressive autofocus capabilities with two linear motors, providing high-speed, high-precision, high-tracking, and quiet focusing.
It supports high-speed continuous shooting with AF/AE tracking of up to 120 frames per second for the Alpha 9 III full-frame mirrorless camera.
Additionally, the lens offers AF tracking for high frame rate 4K 120p or FHD 240p movie recording, along with in-body Active Mode image stabilisation for steady shooting during motion.
User-friendly functions include a customisable focus hold button, aperture ring, aperture click ON/OFF switch, and focus mode switch for enhanced operability and control.
The lens is designed to be dust and moisture-proof, featuring a fluorine coating that prevents dirt from adhering to the lens’s front surface.
The FE 24-50MM F2.8 G is set to be available in May with a suggested retail price of approximately £1150 and will be sold through Sony’s authorised dealers across Europe.
