Cast your vote now in the Pro Moviemaker Gear of the Year Awards to honour the best equipment and services of the last 12 months
The Pro Moviemaker Gear of the Year Awards are like the Academy Awards for filmmaking hardware and software. Now in their eighth edition, these accolades are the ones that manufacturers of filmmaking equipment and services desperately want to win, as they are recognised globally.
Innovation and excellence in product design and manufacture are what these annual awards are all about. And what makes them so special is that they are voted for by the people who use the kit every day: professional filmmakers. Here is where the performance and value of kit – all the way from the latest, brand-new innovation to the time-served workhorse – is recognised and honoured.
The flagship categories are for the centrepiece of every pro’s equipment: cameras. Last year, we introduced a new category for PTZs, which are growing in importance. There have been launches in all camera classes, so check out the shortlist and vote for the model you feel deserves a spotlight. Find categories for lenses, lights, stabilisers, memory cards, tripods and a lot more.
We also honour service providers – rental houses and retailers of new and used equipment – since these are the businesses that can make a genuine difference to the lives of pro filmmakers. And they are a vital middle man between manufacturers and users.
As always, the editorial team of Pro Moviemaker magazine has debated hard to compile a shortlist of what we feel is the best around. But it’s down to readers to form the real judging panel.
Please get involved by casting your vote for the equipment and services that have made a significant difference to you. Go online and have your say in our easy and quick survey to help decide which equipment should be honoured. You’re not required to vote in all categories, just those you have experience in or a viewpoint you want to share.
In addition, we also have Editor’s Choice awards for equipment we feel is deserving of special recognition in certain key categories such as mirrorless cameras, cinema cameras, audio, support, lighting and the special innovation. But the real winners are all voted for by you, which makes these awards so important. So please vote and have your say.

Getting involved is simple and you don’t have to register. Voting is open now and runs through until 26 September, so you’ve got plenty of time to consider what to choose.
You can vote in as few or as many categories as you like – it doesn’t have to be every single one. Everyone who votes will be entered into a prize draw and the first name pulled out at random will win a case of champagne.
