Aputure releases the Storm XT52

Posted on Feb 17, 2025 by Pro Moviemaker

For unparalleled brightness, the Aputure Storm XT52 offers a powerful new solution in the film industry

Traditionally, HMI bulbs have been the go-to choice for exceptional brightness and daylight-balanced temperature. However, the Storm XT52 has emerged as a leading COB light with LED technology that rivals this standard.

Aputure, known for its innovative lighting solutions catering to indie filmmakers and large-scale productions, introduced its BLAIR light technology with the Storm 1200x in 2024. This release has laid the foundation for the Storm XT52, which combines five LED colours to provide a comprehensive colour temperature range from 2500K to 10,000K.

“Customers around the world asked us to bring our BLAIR light engine to higher wattage fixtures. So we did,” explained Ted Sim, president and co-founder of Aputure. This customer-driven feedback helped shape the development of the Storm XT52, which not only offers enhanced brightness but also has advanced adjustability and colour accuracy.

With a 10,000:1 dimming ratio, precise control over green tint and adaptable colour temperature, the Storm XT52 provides filmmakers with creative control. This flexibility is expanded upon by the x-y coordinate tunable colours.

While the specifications for the Storm XT52 are robust, it requires an advanced cooling and control system. This system is small and lightweight enough for a single person to set up and operate on a crank stand.

The BSC Expo in London marked the first preview of the Storm XT52, with its full announcement slated for the Aputure Experience at the NAB Show in Las Vegas. This event will offer professionals from the media, entertainment and technology industries the opportunity to experience Aputure’s latest innovations.
