Now in its fifth year, the Festival of Color celebrates the importance of digital colour management for filmmakers and is held in the UK, France and Spain. X-Rite's ambassadors are on hand to explain how colour works and how to sort out your colour workflow from camera to monitor.

The press release says:

Blackmagic Design has revealed two upgrades for its Video Assist and 4K monitor. The 2.4 free firmware update adds multi-lingual support for 10 separate languages. This means customers can now use Video Assist in their native language.

And a second free update scheduled for June will see professional scopes added to the Blackmagic Video Assist 4K model, including waveform, RGB parade, vectorscope and histogram that can be viewed full screen for accurately evaluating video signals.

The new scopes make the Blackmagic Video Assist 4K model perfect for live production monitoring, as portable test scope for broadcasters, and even for balancing color when color grading using the RGB parade scope.

The new localised Video Assist adds interface support for Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Turkish. This broad language support now makes it easier for more customers to use Video Assist anywhere in the world.

“Video Assist has become an indispensable part of everyone’s production kit,” said Grant Petty, Blackmagic Design CEO. “It’s the perfect portable field monitor and recorder. The addition of full blown professional scopes makes it even more exciting and useful for customers. Blackmagic says its new Davinci Resolve 14 is up to 10 times faster than before and the Studio version has been slashed in price to $299 from $995. The basic software is still free. The software has been completely rewritten and now features the well-known Fairlight audio engine, following Blackmagic’s buyout of the company recently. The audio capabilities are a huge bonus to the software as it can record up to 96 channels.

Resolve now has 20 new filters and a new face-recognition tool and it now allows work sharing between multiple users. The official information says:

The Canon EOS 5D Mark IV will record in Canon Log from July thanks to a $99 firmware upgrade. This will give the footage a more cinematic look and allow the footage to be combined more easily with film shot on the Canon Cinema cameras like the C300 Mark II. Canon’s official info says:

A firmware upgrade for the recently-launched Panasonic GH5 and the PZ45-175mm lens has gone live today. The biggest change is for the GH5 as new firmware Ver.1.1 enables 4:2:2 10-bit video recording in either Full HD [MP4(LPCM)] / [MOV] and Anamorphic (4:3) mode, in addition to the existing 4K video recording mode. Metabones has upgraded its adapters to support the new Panasonic GH5 and the Canon 18-80mm cine zoom, via a free firmware upgrade. Metabones' official information says: 

Vimeo goes 360!

Two years after YouTube introduced support for 360-degree video, rival hosting platform Vimeo has now jumped on the bandwagon. That’s good news for pro users as many prefer the higher quality environment of Vimeo for video hosting.

Any 360-degree content on Vimeo will be accessible via the web, Vimeo Apps on Apple and Android mobiles and on Zeiss VR One, Samsung Gear VR and Google Daydream VR headsets. Vimeo says support for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive are coming soon.

“Vimeo has always been committed to preserving and delivering the highest quality video and our move into 360 expands our premium video technology solution to 360 filmmakers,” said Vimeo spokesperson Sara Poorsattar. “Their stories now benefit from our advanced video compression and player customization tools, along with streaming and offline viewing in up to 4K."

Vimeo has also introduced support for 8K video, offline HD playback and a series of online tutorials on how to make 360-degree films.
