In response to a demand for high-quality footage that meets industry standards in any shooting environment, Canon Europe has launched two new imaging solutions: the XF605 and the 10×16 KAS S 8K.
The latest addition to Canon’s XF series, the XF605 responds to the needs of industry professionals, ideal for news gathering and studio productions. It can achieve 4K 60p/50p 4:2:2 10-bit image quality and a high frame rate of up to 120p. The camera uses a 1.0 TYPE CMOS sensor and DIGIC DV 7 processor for optimum image quality.
5-Axis image stabilisation guarantees the same smooth footage demonstrated elsewhere in Canon’s XF and XA series. The camera has four IS options that users can select according to the environment in which they are shooting. The camera’s HDR (HLG/PQ), Canon Log3 and Look Files features offer filmmakers great versatility and efficiency at all stages of production by making it possible to customise pictures on the go or in post-production.
The XF605 is a good choice for those working with distant subjects. The camera boasts a high magnification 4K L-series lens, enabling a 15x optical zoom in 4K and 30x advanced zoom in FHD.
Other features include Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS Auto Focus System. This is the first camera in the XF series to include Eye Detection AF and Canon’s EOS iTR AF X intelligent head detection and tracking functionality. Choosing which subject to focus on is easier than ever before thanks to the Direct Touch user interface, which also enables easy on-screen navigation.
The XF605 weighs only 2kg, making it light and compact for use when out and about. Canon has also highlighted the camera’s potential to be used with future accessories such as the CA-XLR2d-C high definition XLR microphone adapter from TEAC, providing more options for recording high-quality audio.
The camera is also suitable for live-streaming. IP streaming capability can be paired with Canon’s range of PTZ cameras for multicamera operation with remote control. It has dual SD slots and a number of different recording options, giving users flexibility when filming. Images can be exported to 12G-SDI and HDMI connections to support live and pre-recorded workflows.
The XF605 can be used with Canon’s new Content Transfer Mobile (CTM) app, enhancing user experience and allowing easy transfer of footage from camera to phone. This makes the camcorder ideal for filmmakers and content creators working in broadcast and production industries.
The second imaging solution launched by Canon is the 10×16 KAS S 8K BCTV zoom lens, heralded as a ‘powerful yet portable’ lens perfect for capturing sports and documentary footage thanks to its high-resolution 8K output.
The lens will be the latest in Canon’s series of ultra-high-resolution 1.25” 8K broadcast camera lenses. It has a 10x optical zoom from 16mm – 160mm and a constant f/2.8 aperture, ensuring excellent image quality across a large zoom range, making it suitable for wide as well as telephoto shots.
Designed with Hi-UD lenses and wide-diameter aspherical lenses to reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations, the 10×16 KAS S 8K achieves outstanding optical performance whilst remaining highly portable at only 2.94kg.
The XF605 will retail at £3,599. The 10×16 KAS S price is available on request.
